My name is Everardo Hernandez and let me tell you a little about myself, well this is my first time in college and I don’t really know in what I want to major on. Raised in San Pedro California joined the Army in 2003 and my first duty station was at Fort Lewis and in 2004 I was deployed to Iraq for a year. Upon completion of our combat tour we came back for 10 months and deployed to Iraq again for another year. Returning from my second deployment I had orders to Fort Irwin which accounts for three years to include the third deployment to Iraq and just got back in December2009. After my third deployment I decide to leave active duty and join the National Guard for four years.

Now that I’m out I have been spending a lot of time with my family and friends living a normal life. I still miss being in the Army, but it was time for me to move on I still stay in touch with my fellow soldiers at FT Irwin. So every time I have a chance to go and visit them  somehow we always end up in Las Vegas since Ft Irwin is only two and half hours. One thing that I regret is not been able to take advantage of the Army educational benefits when I first joined, but it’s never too late.

My plans for the future are to buy a house by early next year also now being in the National Guard we might be going to Australia in the summer of next year for our annual training so that sound good. I am also thinking of going Puerto Vallarta after I come back from Australia for two weeks to complete the whole month on vacation. As for school I am thinking of taking more classes in the spring to knock out my general education out of the way and get a job since I decide to take this year off to spend as much time with the family as I can.

  2. Hello Everardo! First of all thank you for being brave enough to go to Iraq let alone three times!! I have friends that have been over seas. When I was thinking about joining the military, the Army is definitely my choice but things happened. Since you don' know exactly what you want to do, knocking out your general ed classes is a smart thing to do right now. Good Luck in the future.
